The Minister of Agriculture, Ángel Estévez, formally initiated the new national system of the Agricultural and Livestock Producers Single Register (RUPA) with a view to creating a statistical information system that will allow to identify and know the number of national producers.
With the RUPA, the country will have an updated database with the total number of producers and production areas at a national level.
Through this new GPS-geolocation system, the authorities will be able to know the location of the different farms and to support the producers in the face of any contingency that may appear.
What is the RUPA?
The Agricultural and Livestock Producers Single Register (RUPA) is a novel system that will allow the Dominican authorities to identify the agricultural and livestock production: varieties or species, their health and harmlessness, production stage and environmental impact, and also the national production’s animal health and genetics systems.
A safe and versatile platform will be created that will offer real, reliable and updated information of all the national producers, their geographic location, production area, total area per crop, total area per category; direct access to these producers and immediate assistance if needed.
This database will offer a coding system for the registration of the product areas, will issue a credential to each producer, and will encourage the development of the policies of these credentials, such as prerequisites for the purchase of goods and services in the agriculture and livestock sector.
It will also serve as a checking platform that will allow the producers to request a customised assistance before possible outbreaks of diseases or pests, and they will also be able to use this tool to train themselves in their respective production systems.
