Ecuador's estimated national pork production in 2023 was 216,389 tons, with an increase in production over the last ten years, with an average growth rate of 6%.
The pork industry's efforts to meet national demand have made the country self-sufficient, with per capita consumption increasing from 7.92 to 11.92 kg/person in the last five years.
This export is the result of a joint effort between the public and private sectors. The private sector promotes production, with innovations to be more productive and competitive every day, while the public sector manages the approval of animal health requirements to open new markets. Technical assistance and training for producers are also part of this coordination.
Ecuador exported pork for the first time last year. There were 22.5 tons of the product sent to the Ivory Coast. To achieve this second export, the collaborative and articulated work between Pronaca, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, Agrocalidad, and the Association of Pig Farmers of Ecuador (ASPE) was fundamental.
In this way, the Government of Ecuador searches for markets to promote high-quality national production for the domestic and international market.
