As a result of the concern of Latin American countries to join efforts to strengthen the position of animal protein in 2015, countries such as Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador and Mexico, formed the Latin American Council of Animal Protein (COLAPA), with the aim of promoting sustainable production of animal protein to help fight hunger, malnutrition and reduce environmental impact.
The Mexican Council of Animal Protein (COMPA) was established on March 2 in Mexico, formed by the Confederation of Mexican Pork Producers (CPM); the National Union of Poultry Farmers (UNA); the Mexican Dairy Federation (FEMELECHE); the Mexican Association of Feedlot Cattle producers (AMEG) and ELANCO Laboratories.
Representatives of producer organizations reaffirmed their commitment to work together with the aim of achieving the recognition of Mexico as a leader in the production and consumption of animal protein in the world by 2020 and, in turn, making it the voice that promotes the benefits and the need for animal protein consumption in Mexico and Latin America, thus improving human nutrition and social development.
