The EU agriculture ministers met to discuss the European Commission’s newly presented vision for agriculture and food. The Council welcomed the strategy, emphasizing the importance of agriculture as a strategic sector and the need to make farming an attractive career for future generations.
Polish Minister Czesław Siekierski stressed the necessity of securing a dedicated and appropriately funded Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) based on two pillars. Ministers also called for greater engagement with farmers' organizations, stating that no decisions on agriculture should be made without farmers' input.

Key discussion points included ensuring fair and decent incomes for farmers, reducing bureaucratic burdens, and fostering innovation and new technologies in the agrifood sector. The Council also underscored the importance of balancing environmental, social, and economic sustainability while promoting a more incentive-based approach to sustainable farming.
Additionally, ministers highlighted concerns about unfair competition in international trade and called for stronger measures against unfair trading practices. They also explored new income opportunities for farmers, particularly within the bioeconomy, while reaffirming the CAP’s role in guaranteeing a basic income for the sector.
The Commission’s vision, published on 19 February 2025, focuses on four priorities: making farming attractive for future generations, ensuring a competitive and resilient agrifood sector, preparing the sector for future challenges, and improving living and working conditions in rural areas.
