The largest buyer of Russian food in 2021 was the European Union, according to data from the Federal Center "Agroexport". Last year the EU bought $4.7 billion worth of agricultural products from Russia, 41% more than in 2020. The EU has surpassed China to become the leading purchaser of Russian agricultural products. Russia's food shipments to China in 2021 fell by 12%, to $3.5 billion. At the end of the year, China was the third leading purchaser, following Turkey, which increased its imports of Russian agricultural products by 38%, to $4.3 billion.
The increase in food supplies to the EU in 2021 was mainly due to an increase in the supply of fish products, as well as grain, according to data from Agroexport. Fish products accounted for almost 40% of all exports to European countries in monetary terms - $1.9 billion. The total amount of fish and grain exports to European countries in monetary terms was $1.9 billion out of $4.7 billion. The share of cereals is a little over 12%, or $577 million.
