According to the latest report published by the European Feed Manufacturers' Federation (FEFAC), during 2018 the EU-28 manufactured 164.8 million tonnes of compound feed, making up 80.1% of all purchased feed and showing an increase of 2.2% over the previous year (161.2 million tonnes).
By sector, the highest production of compound feed was for poultry (55.7 million t), followed by pigs (51.74 million t).
By country, the largest producer was Spain with 24.3% of the production (24.25 million t and a 4.3% increase over the previous year), followed by Germany (23.8%, 23.84 million t), France (20.8%, 20.84 million t), the United Kingdom (16.8%, 16.80 million t) and the Netherlands (14.9%, 14.86 million t).
The market for animal feed depends on the livestock products market. In 2018, the EU-28 livestock sector produced 52.8 million t of meat (7.9 million t of beef, 23.8 million t of pork and 15.6 million t of poultry) as well as 172 million t of milk and 6.9 million t of eggs.
