On 8 July 2015, the European Parliament approved its recommendations to European Commission Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) negotiators – the so-called Lange Report - by 436 votes to 241, with 32 abstentions.

According to EU Trade Commissioner, Cecilia Malmström, "the vote also signals is that the old system of investor-state dispute settlement should not and cannot be reproduced in TTIP – Parliament’s call today for a “new system” must be heard, and it will be."
