This authorization does not refer to the cultivation of this corn in the EU, but only to its use for human and animal consumption.

This genetically modified maize has undergone a thorough and rigorous authorization process, which ensures a high level of protection of human and animal health, as well as the environment. The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has issued a favorable scientific assessment, concluding that this GMO is as safe as its conventional counterparts. Following votes in the Standing Committee on Plants, Animals, Food and Feed (SCOPAFF) and the subsequent appeal committee, the Member States did not reach a qualified majority for or against this authorization.

The authorization is valid for ten years and any products obtained from this GMO will be subject to strict EU rules on labeling and traceability.
