Following negotiations of the Ministry of Agriculture of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania with the EU Commission, the restrictions applied after the outbreak of African swine fever (ASF) on a pig farm in Lalendorf (Rostock district) will be lifted on January 15, 2022, one month earlier than originally stipulated in an EU implementing decision. The technical arguments for this decision are, among other things, that there have been no further outbreaks of ASF in domestic pigs and wild boar in the district of Rostock.
With the abolishment of the restricted zone, the area around Lalendorf is again considered ASF-free, and pig farms in this area can again move and market their animals without restrictions. After the detection of ASF on November 15, 2021, the movement and marketing of pigs in the established restricted zone had only been possible in some exceptional cases and under very strict conditions.
