EU: ministers emphasised the need for a uniform application of animal transport rules

The Commission emphasised in particular the importance of respecting animal welfare rules in hot weather conditions.

The Commission urged member states to renew efforts at all levels with the aim of ensuring compliance with existing rules on the protection of animals during transport.

Member states generally supported the Commission plea, in particular with regard to the importance of a correct implementation of existing EU rules.

Several ministers emphasised the need for a uniform application of animal transport rules within the EU, and others even called for new, strictermeasures.
