The data from the last meeting of the CMO, held last February 20th, tell that during year 2013, pig meat exports rose by 0.9% with respect to the previous year, reaching 3,099,894 tonnes. The main destination was Russia, that kept the first place with a 24.1% of all the exports (747,210 tonnes), followed by China (21.5%; 665,495 tonnes), with a growth by 13% with respect to year 2012. Hong Kong holds the third place, with a 12.5% of the total European pig meat exports (387,153 tonnes). Among the main destinations, we must highlight the important drops of the exports to Ukraine (-24%), South Korea (-25%), and Belarus (-29%), whilst the exports to the Philippines grew by 38%.
With respect to the imports, they followed the trend of the last years, with a drop by 8.8%. Most of the imported pig meat came from Switzerland (52% of the total amount), followed by Chile (16%), Serbia, US and Canada.
