The meeting between Head of Rosselkhoznadzor Sergey Dankvert and Director General EU DG Health and Consumers Paola Testori Coggi has taken place last Friday in Moscow. The main topic for the dialogue was the search of mutually accepted ways to regionalization due to recent ASF outbreaks in the EU territory.
Sergey Dankvert informed the European party that the ASF spread situation in the EU territory gives rise to deep concerns. The Russian party believes that measures taken in the European Union in order to contain the disease are not sufficient and that is supported by the occurrence of new outbreaks in wild fauna in Poland. In this view the Head of the Rosselkhoznadzor came forward with the initiative to send the European specialists to the All-Russian Institute for Animal Health, subordinate to the Rosselkhoznadzor where they can exchange their experience and assess the situation and risks associated with the virus spread in the EU territory together. The European party supported the idea and said that such a visit would be possible as early as next week. Besides based on previous agreements the Russian specialists will be sent to Poland to study the ASF spread situation.
Mrs. Coggi noted that the European Union took very seriously the current situation and this relates not only to the suspension of export to the CU countries but to maintainance of pork industry in the EU in general. Contrary to the expectations of the Rosselkhoznadzor the European party did not make any new proposals in relation to regionalization in the EU territory and continued insisting on the approaches demonstrated earlier. The Russian party said that the proposed regionalization which implies restrictions to be imposed only on six regions of Lithuania is not an only unbalanced decision but taking into account the ASF registration in Poland not actual anymore.
The parties will continue consulting based on the results of the bilateral visits of experts.
