According to the latest ADIS data for the first quarter of this year, a total of 4,481 cases have been reported in wild boar and 168 in domestic pigs in 17 European countries, confirming that the virus continues to be an active threat to livestock and wildlife.

Wild boar

The rate of infections in wild boar is very high. Although in these latitudes seasonal spread of the virus causes cases to increase between September and March, if the current trend continues, the figures at the end of the year could far exceed those of 2024 (7,672 cases).

The countries most affected by cases in wild boar include Poland (1,465 cases), Germany (885), Latvia (560), and Hungary (389).

In second place is Moldova, which has gone from recording 13 outbreaks in all of 2024 to 31 in the first quarter of 2025 alone, an increase of more than 200%.

Ukraine (12), Serbia (12), and Bosnia and Herzegovina (7) complete the list of the most affected. Isolated cases were also reported in Croatia (1) and Italy (1).
