This department is responsible of supporting and promoting a knowledge and evidence-based green and digital transition towards a sustainable, competitive, and resilient EU agriculture, rural areas and food systems. The date of effect will be determined later.
Mr Sitar brings three decades of experience across both the European and national public sectors, with extensive exposure to a diverse range of policy areas, notably spanning agriculture, food policies, and competition law. Throughout his career at the European Commission, he has assumed multiple management and coordination roles, demonstrating strong leadership, strategic planning, and organisational acumen. Mr Sitar has successfully overseen key legislative initiatives, including the 2021 CAP reform for the Common Market Organisation Regulation. His resilience, efficiency, and ability to perform under intense pressure have been consistently demonstrated. Moreover, his expertise in handling complex and sensitive files has reinforced his suitability for a directorial role within this critical area of his new DG.

Mr Sitar, an Austrian national, is currently a Head of Unit at the European Commission, in charge of agricultural law and enforcement at DG AGRI. He previously served as Head and Deputy Head of Unit in the same DG, responsible for governance of the Agri-food Markets. Earlier in his career, he took on the role of First Counsellor in the EU Mission to the World Trade Organisation. Before joining the Commission in 1997, he worked at the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
