The latest data published by the European Commission show how the EU pork exports have grown by 9.2% in the first trimester of 2019 in comparison with the same period in 2018, with a total of 1,110,499 tonnes.
We must highlight the important increase in exports to Vietnam, that have risen by 90%, with 23,093 tonnes shipped to this Asian country affected by African swine fever.

China still is the main destination, with 454,216 tonnes, this implying 41% of the total exports, with an increase by 26% with respect to the first trimester of 2018.
The five main destinations are China (40.9% of the total), Japan (10.8%), South Korea (7.4%), The Philippines (6.9%) and Hong Kong (5.4%).
The EU still is the main global pork and pork products exporter, growing with respect to 2018, whilst the USA, that still holds the second place, has suffered a slight decrease. As we can see in the following chart, the drop in the Chinese + Hong Kongese exports stand out.
