European Union: In January exports of pork increased by 25%

During the month of January exports totaled 247,953 tons, 24.9% more compared with January 2011.

On March 22nd the monthly meeting of the Management Committee of the Common Organization of Agricultural Markets was held, where data was disclosed on imports and exports of pork from the European Union.

The year begins following the previous year’s trend, with declines in imports (-6.1%) and increases in exports (+25%) during the month of January, compared with the same month last year.

Imports amounted to a total of 3061 tons. Major declines in imports of pork from Chile (22%), Canada (-34%) and Croatia (-84%) we shown, compared with January 2011.

Regarding exports, during the month of January they totaled 247,953 tons, 24.9% more compared with January 2011. Increases were observed in exports to all destinations. Russia remains the main destination with 24.9% of the total, followed by Hong Kong (16.3%) and China (13.4%).
