European Union: increases continue for pork exports

According to data from the European Commission, pork exports during the first 8 months of 2011 have increased by 24% with respect to the same period in 2010.

According to data from the European Commission, pork exports during the first 8 months of 2011 have increased by 23.4% with respect to the same period in 2010.


Exports reached 2,048,758 tons, with the principal destinations being Russia (560,762 tons, +7%), Hong Kong (337,998 tons, +35%), China (220,561 tons, +96%), Japan (152,561 tons, +3%) and South Korea (140,630 tons, +13%).


Regarding imports of pork products from third party countries by EU member states and during the period aforementioned, this number rose to 24,842 tm, which represents a decrease of 17% with respect to the same period last year. The main country exporting to the EU is still Switzerland with 11,702 tons (+4%), followed by Chile (5,121 tons, -15% and Croatia (3.045 tons, -9%).
