European Union: pig meat exports drop by 2% in 2012

The total pig meat exports in 2012 were 3,130,291 tons, which means a drop by 1.9% with respect to year 2011.

The data of the last meeting of the Common Organisation of Agricultural Markets (COM) estimate that the total pig meat exports in 2012 added up 3,130,291 tons, which means a drop by 1.9% with respect to year 2011. The main destination of the European pig meat during last year was Russia, with a total of 745,509 tons, although a drop by 12% with respect to year 2011 is seen; whilst the shipments to China (second destination), with 586,283 tons, rose by 49%.

The imports carried on with a downward trend with a total of 34,900 tons imported, which means a drop by 8.6%.
