European Union: pig meat exports remain stable

During the first nine months of this year pig meat exports have remained stable with respect to the same period in the previous year, reaching 2,289,785 tonnes (+0.3%). Exports to Russia, with a proportion of 24.5% of the total (560,273 t) have diminished by 3%, whilst exports to China, with a proportion of 21.6% of the total (495,694 t) have grown by 20% with respect to the previous year.

The important falls of the exports to Ukraine (-23%), Belarus (-31%) and South Korea (-35%) stand out, as well as the rise by 37% of the exports to The Philippines.

With regard to pig meat imports, they follow the trend of the last years, with a fall by 7.9%. The important reduction of the imports from the main supplying countries, like Switzerland (-13%) and Chile (-18%) stand out, and there has been a rise by 21% of the imports of pig meat from Serbia.
