European Union: slight decline in pork exports

The total pig meat exportations during the first six months of 2013 have fallen by 1% with respect to the same period of year 2012, reaching 1,481,109 tons.

According to the data of the last meeting of the Management Committee for the Common Organisation of Agricultural Markets, the total pig meat exportations during the first six months of 2013 have fallen by 1% with respect to the same period of year 2012, reaching 1,481,109 tons.

China, with an increase by 37% (and by 22.5% of the total quota), is the second destination of the European pig meat. Russia, is still the first destination despite a decrease of 18%. The exportations to Hong Kong (the third destination in terms of importance) have decreased by 11% in comparison with the same period in year 2012.

With respect to the importations, they follow the tendency of the last years, reaching 17,433 tons during the first half of 2013, that means a fall by 4,5%. The main suppliers of the EU still are Switzerland (with 50% of the total quota), followed by Chile (17%), Serbia (8%) and United States (4%).
