European Union – Increase in the exportation of pork

The latest data from the Single Market Management Committee of the European Commission shows a 28,5% increase in the exportation of pork between the months of January and April of 2011, reaching 974.302 tons.

The latest data from the Single Market Management Committee of the European Commission shows a 28,5% increase in the exportation of pork between the months of January and April of 2011, reaching 974.302 tons. The main destinations continue to be Russia, with an 8% increase and 27,8% of the total (271.198 tons), Hong Kong (163.056 tons, which represents 16,7% and an increase of 25%) and South Korea, which has remained in third place over the last several months with 8,5% of the total (83.208 tons) and with an increase of 141% with respect to the same period last year.

Regarding importations, these are following the downward trend, with a reduction of 33,5% compared to the same period last year, with only 11.932 tons imported between the months of January and April of 2011, the main providers being Switzerland with 50% of the total, followed by Chile (18%) and Croatia (13%).
