First case of African swine fever in Montenegro

Montenegro reports the first occurrence of ASF in the country, found in wild boar.

On January 12, 2024, two dead wild boars were found 500 meters from the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina in Kovaci village, Nikšic. They were tested and confirmed to be positive for African swine fever (ASF). This is the first occurrence of the disease in Montenegro reported to the World Organisation for Animal Health.
