The first occurrence of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) in Trinidad and Tobago was confirmed on May 30, 2024, in Siparia. The outbreak was reported to the World Organisation for Animal Health on June 6.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Land, and Fisheries, a thorough epidemiological investigation including sample collection and testing is ongoing at the farm. Surveillance in the surrounding areas continues as the infection source remains unidentified.
