For the first time in the state of Brandenburg, and therefore throughout the country, the presence of African swine fever (ASF) has been confirmed in domestic pigs. These are two farms in the districts of Spree-Neisse and Märkisch-Oderland. Both farms were immediately put under restrictions by the responsible veterinary authorities and the necessary measures were applied. The virus was initially detected by the Berlin-Brandenburg state laboratory and, on Thursday evening, the national reference laboratory, the Friedrich-Löffler-Institut (FLI), confirmed the suspicion of ASF.
At the Spree-Neisse district farm, the virus was detected in a carcass as part of the ASF control program. By order of the responsible veterinary office, all 200 animals on the farm have been culled and removed. In the case of the Märkisch-Oderland district, it is a small farm with two animals.
In Brandenburg, ASF has so far been confirmed in a total of 1,267 wild boar.
