Bangladesh reported the first occurrence of African swine fever (ASF) in the country to the World Organisation for Animal Health. According to the December 21 report, the outbreak started on November 13, 2023 on a "Pig Development Farm" in Rangamati with 414 susceptible pigs.
Movement control, surveillance, and an awareness campaign have been implemented. The source or origin of the infection is currently unknown or inconclusive.
