According to information from the Thanh Hoa Provincial Veterinary Department, on February 23, the test results (blood, epithelium) from a pig farm in Thanh Hoa province were announced on February 23. Foot and mouth disease virus serotype O was detected in the test sample.
The authorities destroyed 30 pigs, weighing more than 600 kg, to prevent the spread of the disease. The burial and disinfection process was carried out according to standards.
The authorities have set up two checkpoints and a mobile team to inspect the transportation and trading of livestock and have organized livestock screening and vaccination in the area surrounding the epidemic area starting February 23, 2025.
Previously, from February 18 to 22, 2025, in the Thach Binh commune, there were sick pigs with signs of blisters, mild lameness, and fever, suspected of being infected with foot and mouth disease. The disease occurred on small-scale livestock farms.
