According to the French newspaper Le Monde, the Government has decided to prohibit the importation of live pigs and pig products from US, Canada, Mexico and Japan, with the aim of avoiding the entrance of the porcine epidemic diarrhoea virus (PEDv).

This decision confirms the prohibition of the importation of live pigs, pig semen and sperm (products that are rarely imported from these countries) and food products that contain pork.

France is, up to this moment, the only country in the European Union to apply this prohibition.
