According to the OIE, the outbreak was detected in Bretx (Haute-Garonne). The outdoor pig farm with 11 breeding pigs (two males and nine females), 14 nursing piglets and 57 fattening pigs is located on the edge of a forest. Biosecurity measures do not guarantee that no wild boar will enter the farm.
The disease was detected during planned monitoring of open-air farms. No animals have entered the farm for over 2 years (self-replacement of sows). No animals have been sent to other farms, only to a slaughterhouse for direct sale of pork to consumers. There are no other pig farms within a 5 km radius of the farm.
The likely source of the infection is contact with wild boar.
On the other hand, according to the weekly bulletin, Plateforme ESA, for several weeks, cases of Aujeszky's disease in hunting dogs have been reported to local health authorities by veterinarians in different French departments without a specific quantification of the number of cases (Source: DGAl).
