During the revision of the "Global Security" law, on March 16, 2021, the French Senate voted on an amendment in favor of taking stronger measures against illegal entry into farms, which has been on the rise in recent years. Trespassing not only constitutes a violation of private property but can also represent a health hazard.

Two measures are proposed to make the new penal provisions more dissuasive to these acts. First, the amount of the penalty would be increased from one year's imprisonment and a fine of €15,000 to three years' imprisonment and a fine of €45,000. The second measure consists of giving, on an experimental basis, municipal police officers and rural guards, particularly present in rural areas, the ability to warn of these crimes. Their action would be supplementary to that of the national gendarmerie.
