According to the SNIV's (the French Meat Industry National Union) last bulletin, during the first 6 months of 2014, the French pork exports to Russia dropped by 83%. Nevertheless, the total exports in the first half of 2014 remained stable: 361,000 tonnes (+0.1%). The fall in the exports to third countries (-6.5%; 105,000 tonnes) was compensated by an increase in the trade with the EU countries (256,000 tonnes; +3%). The exports to China remained stable (-0.4%), whilst other Asian countries increased their purchases: Korea (+160%), Japan (+76%), and the Philippines (+16%).
The imports during the first semester of 2014 increased by 8%, reaching 333,000 tonnes. Spain (+12.3%) and Germany (+3%) represent, on their own, more than 70% of the supply. Nevertheless, there was a growth in the imports from Denmark (+8%), but in modest volumes (13,000 tonnes).
The French pork foreign trade deficit exceeds €200 million.
