The French Minister of Agriculture, Bruno Le Maire, has announced the creation of the first national plan to reduce the risk of antibiotic resistance in veterinary medicine.

The plans objective is twofold:

• reduce the contribution of the antibiotics used in veterinary medicine to bacterial resistance, without affecting the health of animals;
• preserve the effectiveness of treatments, especially from the perspective of reducing the development of new antibiotics.

With this plan, France is one of the first countries to set specific guidelines on antibiotic resistance.
