The National Reference Centre (NRC) for Animal Welfare's aims will be to share knowledge with all the people implied in animal welfare (animal breeders and carers, veterinarians, researchers), to spread the results of the research and technical innovations, to provide scientific and technical support to all the people implied and to be a resource centre for the training in terms of animal welfare protection.
Apart from the INRA, the foundation of this centre has relied on the participation of the four French Veterinary Medicine/Science faculties (Maisons-Alfort, Toulouse, Lyon and Nantes) and of some actors in the applied research (Idele, ITAVI, IFIP), represented by the ACTA. An advisory committee will link the animal protection organisations and the professional organisations with the work performed in the National Reference Centre.
The foundation of the NRC responds to the expectations of the citizens regarding sustainable agriculture and animal welfare.
