The strengthening of the regulations on the protection of water against the nitrates used in agriculture initiated in 2011 will go on in 2013, according to the French Minister of Agriculture, Stéphane Le Foll, and to the Minister of Ecology, Sustainable Development, and Energy, Delphine Batho. Year 2013 will be dedicated to the completion of the national action program and to the development of the action programs at a regional level.
After the enquiry made consulting stockbreeders and farmers, some modifications are proposed with the aim of keeping the French stockbreeding production while respecting the environmental requirements as, for instance, evaluating the duration of the capacity for storing dung and slurry in an agronomic way, bearing in mind the geographic differences as, for instance, the kind of livestock. It also foresees a transitory period for the implementation of the new regulations, forecasted for year 2016 for certain categories of wastes (certain kinds of manure).
