France: Decrease in pig slaughter

In December, the number of pigs slaughtered fell sharply year-on-year (-7.8%), remaining below the average slaughterings for the 2018-2022 period (-6.5%). At 94.2 kg/carcass on average, the weight of slaughter pigs is stable year-on-year (+ 0.1%).

For 2023, slaughterings are down by 4.8% year-on-year, and by 6.2% compared with the five-year average, reflecting the decline in pig numbers on farms.
