In 2023, French pig farmers produced 22 million pigs. The 4.8% decrease in French production compared to 2022 is less than the 7.9% decrease seen in European production over one year.

Following two years of crisis due to the soaring cost of raw materials for pig feed, many farmers have been unable to continue in the business.

Trends in 2024

In the first four months of 2024, French pig farmers produced 6.2 million pigs, up 0.7% on the first four months of 2023. Over the first two months of the year, German production rose by 4.9% and Spanish by 4.2%. Denmark, on the other hand, saw its pig production fall by 6.9% over the first two months of 2024.
