Following the emergency measures for the farming community announced by France's Prime Minister Gabriel Attal on January 26, and the "ten immediate simplification measures" announced yesterday at the Extraordinary European Council, French President Emmanuel Macron held a press conference at which he reviewed the discussions with all European partners to rapidly improve the situation of farmers.

According to Emmanuel Macron, this will notably involve a stronger, more sovereign Europe, thanks to the introduction of a European EGalim, a derogation from the 4% set-aside requirement, the fight against unfair competition, and the application of mirror clauses. Also the complexity of standards, which are regularly denounced by farmers. We need to make sure that "at the European level, there is no circumvention" of the rules "by the major European buying groups", said the Head of State.

Europe is in the throes of an agricultural crisis and has been for many months. After major movements in the Netherlands and Germany, and now in Belgium, Romania, Poland, and France, major protest movements are springing up all over Europe.

At the national level, Emmanuel Macron has asked his Prime Minister Gabriel Attal to implement concrete "answers" in favor of simplification "no later than the Salon de l'agriculture", the major annual meeting of the agricultural world in Paris, which he will kick off on February 24.
