Within the framework of FAO, one of the first meetings of the System of Agricultural Market Information (AMIS) and the Rapid Reaction Forum took place in Rome this past September.
These two initiatives mark a critical first step in the implementation of the "Plan of Action regarding the volatility of prices of food and agriculture", which was adopted by the Ministers of Agriculture of the G-20 on June 23 in Paris.
AMIS aims to improve transparency and information on agricultural markets of major crops (wheat, rice, corn and soybeans). For its part, the Rapid Response Forum, comprising senior managers of the agricultural policies of major producers, exporters and importers is to promote the rapid exchange of key information between policy makers and provide a forum for discussion and consultation on prevention and response to market crises.
