Federal Minister for Food and Agriculture, Julia Klöckner, handed over a funding notification to the North Rhine-Westphalia Chamber of Agriculture for the 'Zissau' project in Kempten - sustainable and innovative stall construction concepts for sows and rearing pigs. The project, funded by the Federal Ministry with a total of 2.3 million euros, supports the renovation of the Haus Düsse experimental stables. It shows how more animal welfare can be put into practice.

The Minister expressed, "More space in the barn, more employment opportunities, more exercise or fresh air... that is why we are making a record sum of 300 million euros available for a barn conversion program..."

The Zissau project complements the "Stable of the Future" project planned as part of North Rhine-Westphalia's sustainable livestock husbandry strategy. By 2022, new barns will initially be built for pig husbandry that will demonstrate innovative husbandry methods.
