The "Future Commission for Agriculture" met on September 7 in Berlin for its inaugural meeting. The Commission of the Federal Government, chaired by Professor Dr. Peter Strohschneider, consists of all the relevant social groups in agricultural policy; the 32 members are from the fields agriculture, industry and consumption, the environment and animal welfare, as well as science.

The aim of the Commission is to develop recommendations and suggestions for agriculture in Germany that are economically, ecologically, sustainably and socially acceptable, to try to combine improved animal welfare, biodiversity, climate and environmental protection with fundamental tasks of food security and economic viability.

Federal Minister of Agriculture, Julia Klöckner, emphasized that agriculture faces the challenge of ensuring food production while at the same time meeting the social requirements for improved animal welfare and protection of the environment, biodiversity, and climate.

As a result of the meeting at the Chancellery, the participants agreed to set up the "Agriculture Commission of the Future", appointed by the Federal Cabinet on July 8, 2020.
