The risk of introduction of African swine fever (ASF) by infected wild boar from western Poland into Germany is increasing. In light of the dynamic epidemic in Poland's Lebuser Land voivodeship, Brandenburg will erect up to 120 kilometers of wildlife protection fences along the Oder–Neisse line to prevent the introduction of ASF by infected animals.
The construction is being carried out at the expense of the state and is the responsibility of the districts. Both electric and scented fences will be used. The first fences, which the state will procure centrally, are to be erected along the Neisse River in southern Brandenburg by the end of this week.
African swine fever has been spreading in western Poland since mid-November. The restricted zones established on the Polish side extend to the German border and touch the Brandenburg districts Spree-Neisse and Oder-Spree.
