According to the report drafted by QS Qualität und Sicherheit GmbH, between 2014 and 2018, the use of antibiotics in all livestock species registered in the QS scheme dropped by 253.2 tonnes. This entails a decrease by 35.7%. The QS scheme includes 95% of the pork and fowl production in Germany.
Specifically, in the case of pig production, the amount of antibiotics administered fell by 41.9%, going from 522.7 tonnes in 2014 to 303.7 tonnes in 2018.
In the case of critically important antibiotics a drop was also seen, going from 0.36 tonnes in 2014 for 3rd and 4th generation cephalosporins to 0.28 tonnes in 2018, and from 7.32 tonnes of fluoroquinolones in 2014 to 3.81 tonnes in 2018.
