The Federal Government has approved the draft law submitted by the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture on the labeling of food products of animal origin according to the way in which the animals from which they are derived are raised.

In the future, the labeling will have to provide information on the type of housing in which the animals were produced on a five-level scale (from smallest to largest available surface area: pen, pen with more space, open-air pen, open-air production, and organic production). As a first step, retailers will be required to label fresh, unprocessed pork when selling it.

Once the bill has been approved by the Federal Government, it will be sent to the EU for notification.
