Germany: pig numbers lowest since 2011

As reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), 27.5 million pigs were kept in Germany as at 3 November 2015. According to provisional results of the livestock survey, this was the lowest level since November 2011.

The number of pigs decreased by roughly 564,100 animals (–2.0%) compared to the survey of May 2015 and by as many as 803,600 animals (–2.8%) compared to the survey of November 2014.
