Due to the restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic (closure of hotels, restaurants and other dining areas, as well as the cancellation of festivals and celebrations in May) meat sales have stalled, leading to an accumulation of supply. In this situation, sales of pork from sows are greatly affected. Market observers speak of a significantly exaggerated price reduction by German slaughterhouses and the range is so wide that the average price to the producer cannot be determined.
Therefore, the Board of the producer organisation VEZG decided to temporarily suspend the price recommendation for sows from May 6 to June 3, 2020.
