At the Agriculture Ministers' Conference in Dresden, Federal Minister for Food and Agriculture Julia Klöckner asked the federal states to commit themselves to one of the presented financing models for the conversion of animal husbandry. During this parliamentary term, the Federal Minister has developed and presented for a vote an overall concept for transforming livestock farming in Germany towards greater animal welfare.
Julia Klöckner: "I want German producers to have an economic perspective and do more for animal welfare. Consumers want this too. Higher animal welfare also means spending more money, which is why we have to support livestock farmers in rebuilding pens. To this end, I have submitted legally verified financing models. In addition, we have obtained a guarantee from the EU Commission that the investment for the construction of pens with improved animal welfare can be financed up to 80%. Furthermore, the financing period is no longer limited to seven years, but indefinitely, which fulfills another crucial prerequisite, as farmers need reliability and legal certainty. All the foundations have therefore been laid for a quick decision in the new parliamentary term.
