The meeting was coordinated by the Vice Minister of Livestock, Angel Acosta, who explained that decree number 115-2015, or "Law of Protection and Animal Welfare" should be made known to the entire Honduran population. Therefore educational and informative campaigns should be established to increase awareness of this legal provision where all the institutions that make up the National Council participate.
The Animal Welfare Protection Law No.115-2015 aims to establish the rules for the protection of domestic, wild, exotic animals in captivity, as well as domestic animals that are for human consumption, whose intensive production must be subject to their respective rules and national and international standards established in the treaties in force in Honduras.
The legal provision creates the National Council as a policy consultation and coordination body chaired by the SAG and also includes the Secretariats of Natural Resources and Environment, Health, Education, and the National Institute of Forest Conservation (ICF) in addition to the Association of Municipalities of Honduras (AMHON), the Honduran Veterinary Medical Association (CMVH), the Faculty of Biology of the National Autonomous University of Honduras (UNAH), the Security Forces, FAPA and the National Federation of Farmers and Ranchers of Honduras (Fenagh).
