The general director of the National Agrifood Health and Safety Service of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock said, "Honduras was declared nationally free of this disease in 2011, but to make the market more competitive we are seeking to achieve international status".

At the end of April and May, an agreement was signed with the National Association of Pig Farmers (Anapoh), whose main objective is to create a database for the implementation of the epidemiological surveillance program, focused on classical swine fever and African swine fever.

Consequently, this sampling in pigs will be used to prepare a technical document called "Dossier" with which international accreditation is being sought from the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE), which will be ready in early January 2024.

In the country, per capita pork consumption is 6.4 kilograms, with an increase of 8 to 10% year-on-year in the last five years.
