According to figures provided in an infographic by the Federal Information Center for Agriculture (BZL), the amount of antibiotics dispensed for veterinary medicine in Germany has been reduced by about two-thirds over ten years. With minor differences, this applies both to antibiotics in general (-65%) and to so-called critically important antibiotics (-67%), to which the World Health Organization (WHO) attaches particular importance for human treatment.

The amount of antibiotics in 2021 fell by 14% compared to the previous year. Critically important antibiotics were reduced by almost one-fifth over the same period.
