The latest data from the Animal Disease Information System (ADIS) on the number of outbreaks of African swine fever (ASF) in the European Union up to July 2023 have been published. So far this year, 202 outbreaks have been reported in domestic pigs and 4986 in wild boar.
Domestic pigs
Regarding ASF outbreaks in domestic pigs, Romania, as in previous years, continues to be the EU country that reports the most cases, with 329 outbreaks reported in 2022 and 146 as of July 2023. In wild boars, 465 outbreaks were reported in 2022 and 217 have been reported as of July 2023.

Wild boar
Regarding outbreaks in wild boar, so far this year the countries reporting the most outbreaks are: Poland (1936 outbreaks), Germany (736), Italy (709), and Slovakia (478).

In Poland, 10 outbreaks in domestic pigs and 1936 outbreaks in wild boar have been reported so far in 2023.
In 2022, Hungary saw a great reduction in the number of outbreaks in wild boar compared to the previous year (395 vs. 2584). So far this year it has already reported 318 cases, so it is expected that more cases will be reported this year than in 2022.
Lithuania has detected two outbreaks in domestic pigs this year after almost a year without detecting ASF in the country. On the other hand, in wild boar, 302 outbreaks were reported in 2022 and 200 have already been reported so far in 2023.
Croatia reported ASF for the first time in the country in June 2023 near the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina. In total, 31 outbreaks have already been reported so far this year.
In Greece, outbreaks had already been detected in wild boar. There was a second outbreak of ASF detected in April after the Greek authorities detected a single case in a backyard farm in 2020.
