The big jump came in 2018 when Spain almost tripled its imports compared to the previous year (around 300,000 piglets in 2017 vs. 957,000 in 2018) and continued increasing, but in smaller percentages (+20% in 2020, +22% in 2021 and +9% in 2022).
In regards to the total share, while Germany has been losing share (from 67.6% in 2016 to 51.75% in 2022), Spain has gone from representing 2% in 2016 to currently 30%. Belgium has maintained the same share at around 12%.
